What are cosmetic chemicals?
Industrial cosmetic chemicals (cosmetic-grade chemicals) are a group of raw materials used in the production of skin care, hair care, and personal hygiene products. Unlike finished retail cosmetics, these are raw materials purchased in batches from 25 kg to tons, requiring high purity, batch consistency, and impurity control according to state regulations.
The most common types of raw materials include: glycerin, 96% ethanol, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) / sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), citric acid, cosmetic-grade NaOH, propylene glycol, and industrial emulsifiers. Glycerin (CAS 56-81-5) — Moisturizing & Solvent
Glycerin USP/Cosmetic Grade (purity ≥99.5%) is a key humectant in moisturizers, toners, serums, and hair care gels. Glycerin draws moisture from the air and locks it into the skin’s stratum corneum, enhancing softness and smoothness without leaving a greasy or sticky residue.

Ethanol 96% — Solvent & Preservative (CAS 64-17-5)
Cosmetic-grade Ethanol 96% is the most common solvent in perfume toners, skin toners, hand sanitizers, and fragrances. Cosmetic ethanol must meet USP/EP standards, be free of methanol (less than 50 ppm), and other harmful impurities.
Loc Thien supplies 96% bio-ethanol (bio-ethanol derived from sugarcane), holds all necessary alcohol business licenses, and is committed to ensuring traceability in accordance with Decree 105/2017/ND-CP. Packaged in 25L HDPE plastic cans or 200L steel drums.
SLS/SLES — Foaming Surfactant
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are the two main foaming agents in shampoo, body wash, and toothpaste. Key difference: SLES is ethoxylated, making it less irritating to the skin than SLS, suitable for “mild” products and for sensitive skin.

Loc Thien imports SLES 70%, which complies with REACH (EU) standards and comes with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) verifying the 1,4-dioxane content—an impurity strictly limited by QCVN 04:2010. Available in quantities ranging from small batches of 200 kg to 20-foot containers.
Citric Acid — pH Adjuster & Preservative (CAS 77-92-9)
Anhydrous citric acid cosmetic grade It is the most common pH adjuster in the industry and also acts as a chelating agent (binding heavy metals) and a preservative stabilizer. The typical usage concentration is 0.1–1.0% to lower the pH to the 4.5–5.5 range—optimal for the skin and effective for preservation.
Loc Thien’s products meet BP/USP standards, with a purity of ≥99.51% (TP3T) and a heavy metal content of ≤10 ppm. They are packaged in 25-kg bags or 1-kg pouches for R&D and formulation testing.
QCVN 04:2010/BYT Standards & CoA/MSDS Certificates
QCVN 04:2010/BYT (National Technical Regulation on Cosmetics) stipulates the list of permitted substances, prohibited substances, and concentration limits for ingredients in cosmetics circulated in Vietnam. Cosmetic manufacturers have the obligation to control incoming raw materials according to this regulation to ensure the outgoing products are officially announced for circulation.
