EHS Lab Test Chemicals — Titration, Wastewater Analysis | Loc Thien

Loc Thien supplies specialized laboratory chemicals for EHS and QC labs in industrial parks in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai. Products come with complete CoA (Certificate of Analysis), MSDS, and CO/CQ. Same-day delivery available in VSIP, Nhon Trach, and Amata industrial parks.

What are laboratory chemicals?

Laboratory chemicals (reagents) are high-purity chemical compounds used in quantitative analysis (titration), qualitative analysis, and wastewater quality testing in accordance with QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT and QCVN 01:2009/BYT. Unlike industrial chemicals (used in large quantities with lower purity), laboratory chemicals must meet analytical grade or reagent grade standards, typically achieving a purity of ≥99.1% and accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) specifying impurity levels.

Titration Drugs — Lab Standards

Titration reagents are standard solutions with precisely determined concentrations, used for quantitative analysis in the factory's EHS lab.

NaOH 0.1N (Sodium Hydroxide) — CAS 1310-73-2 | Acid titration: determine acidity in wastewater, pH testing, analysis of total alkalinity parameter according to QCVN 40:2011
H₂SO₄ 0.1N (Sulfuric Acid) — CAS 7664-93-9 | Base titration: determination of alkalinity, NH₄⁺ in plant wastewater, checking N-NH₄ indicator according to TCVN 5988
KMnO₄ 0.1N (Potassium Permanganate) — CAS 7722-64-7 | Determination of Oxidized Matter (Permanganate Index), Indirect COD in Wastewater according to SMEWW 4500-KMnO₄
EDTA 0.1M (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) — CAS 60-00-4 | Complexometric titration: determination of total hardness (Ca²⁺ + Mg²⁺), heavy metals Zn, Cu, Pb in wastewater
0.1N Sodium Thiosulfate — CAS 7772-98-7 | Iodometric titration: Determination of DO (dissolved oxygen), residual Cl₂ in treated wastewater

pH Indicators & Buffers

Color indicators and pH buffer solutions are essential for accurate titrations and instrument calibration in the lab:

Phenolphthalein 1% Acid-base indicator, pH color change 8.2–10.0 (colorless → pink). Used for NaOH titration, determination of phenolphthalein alkalinity (P-alkalinity) in wastewater.
Methyl Orange 0.1% — Acid-base indicator, pH color change 3.1–4.4 (red → yellow). Used for titrating strong acids, determining total alkalinity M-alkalinity
Bromothymol Blue 0.1% pH color change 6.0–7.6 (yellow → blue). For neutral pH analysis, biological treatment testing
Murexit (Ammonium Purpurate) Instructions for titrating Ca²⁺ with EDTA at pH 12, distinguishing Ca²⁺/Mg²⁺
Buffer pH 4.01 (Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate) — Calibrate pH meter at acidic point, NIST traceable certification
Buffer pH 6.86 / 7.00 — Neutral point calibration, daily use according to ISO/IEC 17025
Buffer pH 9.18 / 10.01 — Calibrate alkaline point, pre-test measurement of high-alkaline wastewater

Application: Wastewater Testing According to QCVN 40:2011

QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT stipulates industrial discharge limits. The EHS lab at the Industrial Park factory needs to regularly check the following parameters using corresponding laboratory chemicals:

pH (6–9 Column A; 5.5–9 Column B) — Calibration with pH buffer 4/7/10; measurement with pH meter
COD <75 mg/L (A) / <150 mg/L (B) — K₂Cr₂O₇ (dichromate) method: K₂Cr₂O₇, concentrated H₂SO₄, FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄; or KMnO₄ method for lightly polluted samples
BOD₅ <30 mg/L (A) / <50 mg/L (B) Phosphate buffer, MgSO₄, CaCl₂, FeCl₃; incubate 5 days 20°C; measure DO by Na₂S₂O₃
SS <50 mg/L (A) / <100 mg/L (B) — Filter through GF/C filter paper, dry at 105°C — no special chemicals required
Ammonia-nitrogen <5 mg/L (A) / <10 mg/L (B) — Nessler method: Nessler reagent, KNaC₄H₄O₆ (Rochelle salt), ZnSO₄; or titrate with 0.1N H₂SO₄ after distillation
Total Nitrogen <20 mg/L (A) / <40 mg/L (B) — Sample degradation using K₂S₂O₈ + NaOH, measured by UV-Vis
Total P <4 mg/L (A) / <6 mg/L (B) — Ammonium molybdate + ascorbic acid + antimony potassium tartrate; UV-Vis measurement at 880nm
